The Newport News Council of PTAs would like to recognize those students,
school staff people, and volunteers who have stood out
among their peers for their hard work and dedication to
improving the quality of the school environment around
them. To do this, the Council accepts nominations and applications for
three separate awards.
The first of these is the scholarship award. This award is presented yearly to an outstanding student who has
met the criteria set forth by the Council.
The second of these awards is the staff person of the year award. This award is presented yearly to a
staff member who has been nominated and voted as the school staff person who has proved to be
exemplary amongst his or her peers in their school environment.
The third award is the volunteer of the year award. This is an annual award that is bestowed upon
a volunteer who has been nominated and selected as the volunteer who has made the greatest efforts to
make their PTA and school a better environment for everyone.
In addition to the above awards, the Newport News Council of PTAs offers a grant to each high school
Parent Teacher Student Association for their use in hosting an After Prom activity, to ensure the
safety and welfare of students.
