Attend all PTA Council General membership meetings. You
will be voting for your unit.
Inform your alternate when you cannot attend. Keep
alternate informed on Council matters. Take alternate
to a meeting with you to “show them the ropes.”
Vote on Council matters as your local unit instructs
you:
for a motion;
against a motion;
or
listen to the discussion on the motion, then vote
for what you feel is best for the children.
Make a report at your local unit meeting of action
taken by Council. This report should include:
date of meeting;
place of meeting;
issues voted on and how the voting went;
any matters referred to the PTA unit;
announcement made;
a brief resume of other information presented by other school representatives,
by the superintendent and by program speakers.
Give a written copy of your report to your local unit
secretary.
Carry concerns to Council as your local unit instructs
you.
Urge members of your unit to attend Council meetings
(especially when a program or business is scheduled that
concerns a particular committee chair).
Keep a procedure book of your Council activities for
your own use and for future delegates.
Inform PTA members as to what a Council is and what
its functions are.
Keep the lines of communication open between your PTA
unit and the Council.
Know your Council – when it meets, where it meets,
what it is doing, and why it is important to your school
and school system.
